Videos: Ensoniq Soundscape S-2000 soundfont
I have published two videos demonstrating a soundfont created with the wave samples of the Ensoniq Soundscape S-2000, also used in its close cousins Reveal SoundFX Wave 32 (SC600) and V7 Spea MediaFX.
I think the Soundscape has one of the best wavetables, and the font makes a good job in reproducing that. Sure, I am a biased judge since the SC600 was my first soundcard, but listen to the Doom fragment and judge for yourself.
I cannot share the soundfont for copyright reasons, but this post and its comments provide pointers for who would like to recreate it. Also, these videos serve as appetizer for my article about the Reveal SC600, featuring my personal variant of the soundfont.
Compositions
Tracks:
- 0:00 : Motoring – by Jeff Batter. One of my favourite MIDI tracks.
- 2:57 : 1812 Ouverture – rendition of the orchestral work by Tchaikovsky.
- 4:08 : Caverns of the Heart – by Fred Nachbaur, based on a guitar study by Matteo Carcassi. Published on the CD Fractile, the song and its MIDI version are available on Nachbaur’s site.
- 6:55 : One Stop – by David Yackley. A pot-pourri of nine different music styles, artistically not great but useful to showcase a soundfont. Bundled with Windows ME and later editions.
Game soundtracks
Tracks:
- 0:00 : At Doom’s Gate – by Robert (Bobby) Prince. From Doom, level music of Episode 1 Mission 1. More infos on VGMPF wiki.
- 1:39 : The Prophecy Part 1 – by Frank Klepacki. From Dune 2, in-mission music. Artist’s version available on Klepacki’s website.
- 4:25 : Debriefing – by Clint Bajakian, Peter McConnell and Michael Z. Land, after John Williams. From X-Wing, played in the debriefing room and in the options screen.
- 8:03 : Crab-like Raft – by Michael Z. Land. From Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, soundtrack of a late-game scene.
